John and I met thirty some odd years ago while working together at Stevens Fashion Fabrics. Since that time, we have always shared a common goal to one day have the opportunity to work together in our own retail store. As a child, my parents introduced me to birding and John learned to enjoy birding through our marriage. So a bird feeding emporium sounded like a great way to make our dream come true. The Los Gatos Birdwatcher combines our love of nature and birds with our desire to give back to the community as well as earn a living. My parent’s legacy allowed us the where-with-all and inspiration to make it happen.
Since our opening in 1995, we are proud to say that we
have given back to the community.
Through affordable school programs, free outreach presentations on our neighborhood birds to local non-profits, in-store classes for children and adults and through our Saturday bird walks and field trips, we have provided many wonderful hours of education and memorable experiences. Yet, we have received back much more than we have given. We have gained a family. Many of our first customers still shop with us, many have become friends and several have become valued employees.
Our goal at the Los Gatos Birdwatcher is to connect you with nature and create some fun and magic along the way. We do this by selling seed mixes without fillers but with the specific seeds that our local birds prefer. Our feeders and baths are designed to attract different birds and still be easy to clean and maintain. Optics specifically designed for birding and books to find out who’s who are also important tools to connect you with nature that you will find at the Los Gatos Birdwatcher. The fun comes from the nature-themed gifts, kids stuff and garden art all around the store.
